WIN! Our July Reader Email Prize

by SNOBS on July 1, 2009

They say good things take time to grow, which is why we’re not the slightest bit concerned about our Reader Email launch attracting only two emails from readers (thank you Lizzy and Rosalind, ha-ha).

The winner of our June Reader Email prize is Lizzy from Lizzy C Photography in Melbourne. Congratulations; your prize will be arriving soon!

And, since there was only one other entry this time, we’ll be sending Rosalind from Silveradoh Promotional Products a runner’s up prize: two pairs of VIVAZ REVIVALS.

Now, about our prize for July…

This month’s sponsor is Bare Naked Beauty www.barenakedbeauty.com.au an online beauty bar stocking Australian natural, and certified organic skin, hair and body care products.
Bare Naked Beauty was launched in 2007 by Melanie Tongmar, who has been a quick student of business practice after impulsively buying a restaurant at age 27. With an irrelevant background in graphic design she learned one important thing… “make sure the business you launch is something you love!”
Mel wanted something that would feed her entrepreneurial spirit, involve her love of beauty and design, and be kind to the environment. She has since researched the detrimental effects many ingredients of synthetic skin care products have; not only on our health, but also on the environment. Currently, BNB stocks 23 brands and is moving into makeup and fragrance.

By writing to SNOBS in July, you could win an all-natural, all-Australian pamper pack from Bare Naked Beauty valued at AUD$90!

The pack contains:

Suvana BioGloss in Stardust, a sheer, juicy baby pink (certified organic).
Shizen Lip & Eye Makeup Remover – an oil and calendula infusion to remove and nourish the delicate eye area (certified organic).
Niyama Antioxidant Serum – a light serum with kakadu plum, goji berry and CoQ10, highly protective.
Billie Goat Soap Milk Moisturiser – a nourishing body milk made for dry, winter skin.
Bod Bath Sachet in Goddess – a sensual and relaxing vanilla, jasmine and mandarin bath soak.

To be in the running, all you gotta do is write to us! All emails published in this section of SNOBS are in the draw. The winner will be named here on August 1 [2009] along with the announcement of our next R.E prize.

What a fantastic site with all topics covered! I’ve just come across your site from flossie.com. I was really drawn in by your funky 50’s inspired ad..I thought I must click through and see what this is all about. Great surprise to see you cover so many areas from business to beauty, and best of all is the retro, creative design of the site. Well done. I’ll bookmark your page.

Thanks Rebecca! So glad you enjoy the vintage images. It’s one helluva task sticking with it sometimes, as it takes A LOT of time and research to source collections, then make contact with the owners for permission, then trawl through a few hundred to pick one that matches an article, then edit text/logos out of the picture… SIGH!

But the reason we’ve committed to it is – not that you asked, but we’ve been dying for an opportunity to tell! (haha) – we love how 50s-era women are depicted as picture-perfect. Always well-dressed, perfectly groomed and rarely minus a smile. Of course they can’t have been feeling “sunshine and lollipops” all the time, but you’d never know it.
They’re very reminiscent of the modern-day working woman, we think. We may have become a little more ‘lax concerning our attire but you’ll rarely come across a businesswoman who’ll admit she’s struggling under the pressure / can’t compete / doesn’t know the answer / feels afraid. It’s like, if we let anyone know there’s a weak-spot in our armour, we’ll lose customers and be taken over by the competition.

It’s best to just act positive, project success – throw on an extra coat of lippy and KEEP SMILING! Or is it….?

At SNOBS we don’t think it is best practice. The vibe we strive to create here is that it’s okay to be clueless and openly admit to your mistakes (in as much detail as possible, if you have time!) Everything shared can only help others, and give YOU cred as a helpful educator!

So, in summary, the beautiful women in our vintage images (30s through to 60s) represent the perfection we’d LIKE to achieve… one day (haha)…. and help remind us that every businesswoman gets a little bit more ‘perfect’ every day.

NOTE: we’re always on the look out for more vintage image sources; if you know of any please let us know.

AND: we’re extremely grateful to the vintage image-owners we work with already. If you like what you see here, do yourself a favour and visit sites we source most of our pics from…

I just sent you a feedback comment relating to this promotion and realised I had to type it here! Does that make me still valid for this competition?

Hi Bernadette, you were actually on the right track first go, and we have received your ‘reader email’ (thank you).
We’ll get it published in this section asap, which means you’re definitely in the running to win our July prize. Good luck!
