I once went without food for a week to buy a Miss Sixty top worth $365. I have had two credit cards both maxed out due to too much time at D.F.O and I once sold all my CD’s to a second hand music store so I could scrape together enough cash for new boots!
I am guilty as charged (both Visa and MasterCard) of being a shopaholic.
So when it came to sit down and watch the new touchstone pictures film Confessions of a Shopaholic I was already emotionally involved with the storyline. [The screenplay by Tim Firth and Tracey Jackson is based on the books "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" by Sophie Kinsella.]
Isla Fischer (former Home and Away star) has hit the big screen in her first leading role as Rebecca Bloomwood – journalist and shopping tragic. Rebecca can’t walk past a display window without being tempted in store by the mannequins; literally. But let’s face it, who doesn’t get a little delusional when there’s a sale on at David Jones?
Rebecca’s life is an up and down mix of disaster and luck – the only comfort she receives is in every new purchase. When she is made redundant from her job and a $9,000 credit card bill arrives, a guardian angel best friend and a series of mishaps land her a job at a financial magazine.
Yes the girl with the massive debt is now offering advice on how to be wise with money! That’s kind of like Christian Bale giving advice on how to motivate staff.
To top it all off, the debt collector is making regular appearances at her home and work, she’s been roped into attending S.A (Shopaholic’s Anonymous) and her new boss is just too cute…
So can Rebecca land the hot guy and halt her ever increasing debt?
Well, much like the cake, I’d like to think you can have your Gucci bag and pay for it too. Isn’t that what credit cards are for?
