You Learn Something New Every Day

by SNOBS on January 20, 2009

This section of SNOBS is where we invite any businesswoman to put on her “expert” cap and share a snippet of advice with the rest of us.

In our first ‘group effort’ installment the talented career women, and working mums, from EnigmaCorp share a few tips – otherwise known as lessons they’ve learned the hard way – for getting the little ones back to school and maintaining your sanity.

Jacky Kitcher, Business Manager

What not to wear:
Taking a two-year-old to his first day at daycare in a brand-new, 100% silk shirt is not a great idea. Wear something you know the toothpaste-vegemite-tears combination will wash out of so you can cuddle and comfort without being torn between the love you feel for your child and the love you feel for your new shirt.

Sally-Anne Thompson, Senior Advisor & Writer

The best-laid plans:
Your carefully constructed, fail-safe babysitting arrangements will inevitably come down like a house of cards. That important meeting/first-day-back/unavoidable deadline will always be the day your child gets sick and needs mummy. Know it now girls! Have back up!

Maryanne Church

The early bird:
You are up at 6am, lunches are made, the washing’s on the line, children are dressed and somehow, miraculously, you are ready early! Keep it that way! Don’t try and squeeze in one more job; you will be late. Just thank the early gods and get in the car NOW. Happy New Year Mums!

Got something to share? It doesn’t matter if it’s quite specific to the industry you work in, or a lesson you’ve learned about something completely un-related to business. If your tip gets a run, so will your name and business! Send a sample of your smarts to contribute@snobs.com.au

Social Networks like Facebook, Linkedin, Ecademy, Fast Pitch, Plaxo, FaceBook are the ultimate way to interact with other businesses or friends.
That’s powerful…and also very simple to use. It is easier to tell 1000’s of people that you are launching a new service or product or telling your friends that you are enjoying a round of golf rather than drafting an entire email campaign.
So now you know a lot of people and businesses…
