Help the Kombi of Hope

by SNOBS on December 2, 2008

Pay It Forward is SNOBS’ way of giving to charity, until such time as we make enough money to actually give to charity.
Although we’ll probably continue to run this section of the site anyway – it’s like our national community notice board to help people who are trying to help other people, get in touch with people who might be able to help them.
Here’s how it works: if you are part of an Australian charity organisation that requires sponsorship, some helping hands, free use of a location for a fundraising event or maybe a donation of 500 plastic hire-chairs and 2000 sausages… we will give you the write-up space to let Australia know what you’re doing, why, and how you could use a hand to make it happen.
Then, any business which jumps onboard to help out – if you contact the charity group because you saw their bulletin here – will get their own write-up at SNOBS (a mini business profile & plug) as thanks!

Verity Currey and Megan Mills are two Hunter Region [NSW] women who need some business sponsorship…

“Megan and I have been associated with the Cancer Council’s Relay For Life event for the past five years. Now, our love of Volkswagens and our determination to find a cure for cancer has resulted in the purchase of a run down 1972 Kombi camper van which we intend to transform into The Kombi of Hope.

“Traditionally Kombis are associated with love, peace, flower power and the hippy era but this Kombi will symbolize hope… hope for a cancer-free future, hope for a cure.

“We plan to drive around the Hunter, in the Kombi, on a daily basis to attend local community events and increase awareness of Relay For Life as a fantastic opportunity to raise funds to defeat cancer. We also want to use the Kombi to educate the community about cancer smart lifestyles by using the camper as the base from which to hold SunSmart promotions in schools and at Surf Life Saving events, for example.

“Although the vehicle is privately owned, it has the full backing of the Cancer Council and will be run as a non-profit project with our hope for *it, being to create a sense of community ownership via engagement with the bus.

“We signed our first local sponsor last month; Penfold’s Automotive at Georgetown are giving the project their backing. Now we’re seeking additional sponsors to help restore the camper and get her back on the road. We want to see her covered in sponsor logos from the local Hunter community as a show of support for The Cancer Council NSW.”
