Next time you’re thinking about undertaking a direct mail campaign, consider sending material to touch, an audio sample to hear, a sample to taste (as long as it’s non-perishable!), or even scent-infused ink technology – think the smell of burnt rubber, freshly cut grass, coffee, a field of flowers… make it work for your industry.
In 2006, Sydney Dogs & Cats Home delivered a memorable campaign. They sent a mail package consisting of a piece of faux fur. Printed on the back were the words: “It feels even better when it’s a real cat”. This generated $85,000 worth of free publicity (thanks to the media attention it generated) and cat adoptions skyrocketed. For any kind of marketing; be a little bit different, evoke the senses & make it memorable.

A wise man once said, “If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll keep getting what you’ve been getting.” While I am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking, positive thoughts will do you no good unless you start taking action. Start the habit of reading for 30 minutes everyday. Drink deeply from good books, they feed the mind and enrich the soul.
Did you know that if you read a book everyday for 30 minutes it will add up to approximately a book a week, which equates to 50 books a year or 500 books a decade – that’s more than you do for a PHD! Remember to earn more you must learn more.

I really like this message from Career Consultant Maureen Blanchard, who suggests we contemplate what a good day would look like and how we’d manage to complete things that support our values and our agenda. She argues that we have legitimate priorities that contribute to ourselves, our families AND our professional lives, all of which need to be on our “agendas”.
You don’t need to make dramatic changes to your life to bring about this type of change. Start reallocating your time to include those important things in your life that we put on the back burner because we have accepted someone else’s priority.
It is this denial of our own needs that can contribute to us feeling dissatisfied with our lives and feeling as if we have ‘missed out’. It’s not being selfish; it’s about ensuring that we nurture ourselves so that we feel good, increasing our confidence and capacity to give, which leads us to want to support others. This is the real time management – it’s called self management.
